Nadene--what a beautiful story of how your big 5-0 birthday evolved. I love your powerful request to your father and brother . And then 100 people who love you join your celebration! Incredible. And what a perfect gift for the rest of your life -- freedom. Thanks for commenting. It's inspirational. Karen

In February, I turned 50 and had my FIRST birthday party. The year before when I turned 49, I politely informed my brother and my father that they were going to give me a 50th birthday party. With absolutely no hesitation, they agreed.

Over 100 people showed up to celebrate this milestone with me. A relative made the comment that he didn't think that I knew that many people. Well I know more people but the people who came to the party are the people that I wanted to spend an evening celebrating with.

For my birthday, I gave myself one gift - freedom. Freedom to explore why God put me on this earth; Freedom to walk in my God-given purpose without fear; Freedom to love unconditionally; Freedom to be tender and not so tough (because at this age I don't have to be tough); Freedom to show compassion; Freedom to grow in knowledge and experience. I could go on and on but to sum it all up, I gave myself the Freedom to accept God's will for my life.

What a joy it has been! It hasn't been easy but it certainly has been a joy. The next 50 years will be the best years of my life - probably because I don't remember much of the previous 49 years. Just kidding. My life has been, and will continue to be a life of growth and joy.
