The World of Viral Videos
Posted on 22. Jun, 2008 by Karen in Misc
From time to time, I post videos here on Midlife’s a Trip. Some of them an amazing phenomenon called “viral videos”. According to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, viral videos are :
Video clip content which gains widespread popularity through the process of Internet sharing, typically through email, IM messages, blogs and other media sharing websites
Typically these videos are snippets of music, humor, politics and just people doing what they do. I check them out on Viral Video Chart which lists and rates the popularity of videos being played around the world on the Internet.
No more than a few minutes long, viral videos are often shot by people like you and me who simply have something they want to share. For instance, the most popular video of the past week is “Where the Hell is Matt” — not Matt Lauer from the Today Show but some other guy doing a little dance in places he’s visited around the world. Believe it or not, this viral video has been viewed 11,092,862 times! Want to grow that number–well here’s Matt for your viewing pleasure:
And lest you think that these videos are only filmed by younger people, one of the most popular viral video celebrities on the Internet is 81 year old British retiree, Peter Oakley. More than 47,000 people of all ages have subscribed to get Peter’s videos as he releases them. Google his pseudonym geriatric1927, to check out his little video shorts from the back end of life.
