Happy Moments in the Life of a Midlife Blogger

Today I’ve been thinking a lot about the great moments in my short but wonderful life as a midlife blogger. In April, 2007, I had to start a blog as part of the requirements for my professional coaching certification. At the time, I grumbled, rolled my eyes and put a lot of resistance out there to learning this new skill.
Last summer, though, I got with the program and immersed myself in learning about blogging, blogs — the whole nine yards of how to show up in the blogosphere. What I couldn’t have known is that once I started blogging I would like it. And over time, I’ve come to love it.
Maybe it was the intersection of midlife with getting my thoughts out of my head and into the blogsphere that has been a liberating experience for me. After years of trying to un-learn my childhood training to be tactful and subtle, I now say what I mean and mean what I say — both online and off.
What I didn’t expect was the great moments I would have as a blogger. One of them occurred today when I published my first post as the contributing editor for midlife issues at BlogHer, an amazing international hub for thousands of women bloggers. I also didn’t expect the joy I feel when I actually think of something to write and when you take the time to comment and weigh in on a issue or share your feelings. Your feedback is always a great moment for me.
I hope you’ll visit me over at BlogHer where I’ll be writing every other Friday. I’ll also be writing for Midlife Bloggers the first Tuesday of every month. This is the new blog where midlife women are gathering to share thoughts, resources and the best ways to enjoy our journey through midlife. Glad to hear you are getting such a kick out of blogging. The effect for me was to turn 50 with a minimum of angst because I had gotten all my fears and stuff out in blog posts the preceding two years.

Jane–Blogging is a “comfort” activity isn’t it especially when it connects you to such great people? Let me know how the meet-up goes in SF. And as for the Twitter issue, I just signed on last week and have no clue how to twitter yet or what a tweet is. That’s a project I’m going to tackle this week. So I’m totally clueless as to what’s going on!! But I check it out tomorrow.

Oh my, blogging is such a therapeutic activity, and just plain FUN! I’ve always enjoyed writing but until I began blogging a year+ ago, I rarely indulged myself. I often thought I’d run out of things to write about, HA!
And the best of it is the neato women I’ve met through it. I didn’t anticipate that, this technology thing really does give you the capacity to form relationships and friendships virtually. Who woulda thunk it?

I know what you mean. The joy of writing and the wonderful comraderie of women bloggers is a combination I wouldn’t have ever dreamed up. It minimizes the impact of my techie learning curve.
