Hanging Out With Midlife Women Bloggers
Posted on 30. Mar, 2008 by Karen in Inspiration
Today I signed up over at Blogher.com, a site for women bloggers. When I went to post an intro to that community I discovered an ”underground” group of midlife bloggers like me. As I read their interesting posts, I just kind of fell into the discussion which culminated in a great list of midlife women blogs over at ByJane . I didn’t have time today but I plan to visit all the sites and see what women “of a certain age”, like me, are thinking and writing about.
I hope you will too.

Hi Karen!
As another BlogHer newbie, I latched onto the midlife blogger post with the enthusiasm I usually reserve for chocolate. I loved your responses on that post, and I’m looking forward to reading more of your blog.
Personally, I am more comfortable in my own skin now in my 40s than I’ve ever been. Feeling stagnant in my day job? No problem. Start a freelance copywriting and editing business on the side. Feeling too heavy and uncomfortable? Find the program for “Couch Potato to 5K” and start doing it. (I can jog in 90 sec. intervals now. Baby step forward, but I rejoice in it anyway). Now, I fully admit to being extraordinarily lucky in having a fully supportive spouse and family. But I feel like once we hit our 40s, the sky is the limit to what we can achieve now that we can lose some of the 20- and 30-something insecurities that can plague us so.
Anyway, that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.
I look forward to becoming addicted to your blog.

I love your description of us as an “underground group of midlife bloggers.” It makes me feel very cool and like I should go outside at night in a very stylish black trench coat with dark sunglasses on to a secret meeting. ; )

Rhea–you’re the first midlife woman blogger I discovered out here in the blogosphere and you’ve been on my blogroll since day 1. My morning doesn’t really start until I’ve read the Boomer Chronicles. I just really learned about Blogher but am inspired by the conversation that’s taking place there with bloggers “of a certain age”.
Toddie–funny you should mention chocolate–I actually blogged about the “skinny on dark chocolate” a while back. But I know what you mean about blogging. I didn’t even know what a blog was this time last year and now my 32 year old IT professional son is looking at me and shaking his head. He can’t believe I blog almost daily. Quite frankly, neither can I! But it moves me. And I say often that finally at 56 years old, I feel like I’m in my own skin. It’s hard to describe to others, but obviously you get it too. I’m glad you’ll be stopping by often!!
Anali–my son calls me “left over from the hippie days”. Guess that’s where my “underground” comment comes from. But your vision makes me smile. I always did want to be mysteriously cool. I’ll start looking for that trench coat. Suits me better than a red hat at this point of my midlife.
ByJane–thanks for your inspiration over at Blogher. I didn’t know what to expect when I signed on there and your post got me going. It’s the most lively blog discussion I’ve ever been in. I look forward to more and to hanging out with you and this amazing community of midlife women bloggers. Here’s to the sisterhood!

I found you on that blogher post as well. I’m so glad I now have so many new friends to meet. Could be the beginning of some beautiful friendships…

Hi Karen!
I found you at Blogher as well. I have your site and all of the other midlife ladies sites on my blogroll at http://www.betweenusgirls.info in the side bar.
I’m in the process of writing a post that introduces all of you to my readers. I should have it up tomorrow if you want to check it out. I’m hoping that we can all help each other out, link to each others sites etc. I’d love a link in your blogroll if you like what you see on my site.
Glad I’ve come across you all and I hope that we can stay in touch. I will check out all of your blogs on a regular basis.
