Girlfriends
Posted on 18. Jun, 2008 by Karen in Misc
Today was my mom’s 89th birthday. One of the greatest gifts Mom got today was a visit from Sitella, her best friend. Sitella drove over to be with us for the birthday celebration. She’s almost 80 and she and Mom have been friends for almost 50 years.
These two have had so much fun together over the years. Both of them speak Spanish which is what they used when they didn’t want us kids (or their husbands) to know what they were saying.
Mom and Sitella have supported one another through just about every crisis you can imagine. And even though Mom doesn’t remember a lot of things these days, she never forgets her best friend and “running buddy”.
So it was great to see them together again today and capture their smiles in this photo. It reminded me that although the years may fly by, somethings are constant.
Like girlfriends.

How heartwarming is that! I hope I’m still that tight with my girlfriends when I hit my 90s. Don’t know what I would do without them!

Could you possibly look any more like your mom??? Wow, at least you know you’re going to age well. She looks 69 not 89. Happy Birthday to the birthday girl!

Happy Birthday to your Mom! Wow! She looks fabulous–and yes like you! Your birthdays are only 10 days apart! How about that?

I love it !
I always try to envision people when they were little. Can’t you just see those two? Laughing, giggling at whatever…just having fun ! I norish and keep alive that “little girl” side of me…I think that is what keeps me happy !
Great picture….in fact adorable !
p.s. I’m off to have some good little girl fun in the sun !

Celeste–You’re right about the “girls”–they were having fun that day! And it was so good to see how friends continue to enjoy one another’s company for decades. Hope you have fun in the sun–stop by and share about your trip when you’re back! Karen
Madeleine–I’m ever hopeful that I look as great as Mom does when I’m in my 80s. As for our birthdays–can you imagine 2 Geminis in the same house together. It made for some interesting times! Karen
Lori and Jane–I’ll pass the birthday greetings along to Mom and “yes” everyone’s always said we look alike. I always thought I was lucky to have a mother who was as smart as she was attractive. In more ways than one, I like to think that this apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Karen
Allison–Can I just say “amen”! What would we ever do without our girlfriends? They’re the constant through the ups and downs of life. Karen
