Down Camp — Day 1

Exhale.

As I write this post, I’m sitting at a little table in a great house looking out at a panoramic view of beautiful Cape Ann in Gloucester, Massachusetts.  I’m here on vacation with my sister Paula and 4 year old niece — the infamous “Peanut”.  Meanwhile back at the ranch, my new housemate until November – 25 year old Ivan, a hard-working Obama campaign organizer — is house and cat-sitting and giving me peace of mind to enjoy this break.

Our wonderful hostess, Karen is family –  my sister’s best friend and former college roomie.  She and her husband, Bobby invite us every summer to visit their spacious home on the oceanfront site owned by Bobby’s family for generations and affectionately called “Down Camp” after the original cottage.  Down Camp can be peaceful or rowdy depending on the collective mood of the gang assembled here.  But what it always is — is a delicious blend of relaxation and fun.

Right now there’s a low buzz at Down Camp because everyone else has gone to take the Peanut to a ”tiny chicks” birthday party with her new buddies, Marian and Laura Sue.  I’ve got Motown oldies playing in the background and feel rested already.  There’s something about the combination of the salt air and the thunderstorm last night that gave me the best night’s sleep I’ve had in months.  Check out the lightening show across the channel from Down Camp:

Auuggghh, that sounds SO nice. Here in Texas we are supposed to hit 102 today. We’ve had something like 50 days so far this year. over 100. I know everything is supposed to be bigger and better in Texas but this is going too far.

I felt my body relax just reading about looking out over the Cape. I hope you share some photos with us :)

    Hey Karen,

Sounds wonderful and have a terrific week. Hi to “Peanut” and Paula ! I was just up at Walloon in Northern Michigan for a quick weekend and my oldest, Michael, and his girlfriend Lynn came over from Traverse City. Nice and relaxing get together on the lake. Feel very blessed to have this option in our lives.

Let’s make sure to get together soon when your relaxed self gets back to town!

Allison–I’ve been watching the weather reports for Texas since I’ve been at Down Camp. You definitely need a break from the heat. It’s been warm and muggy here but nothing like 102. I’d be wilting! Stay cool and I’ll post more photos over the next few days.

Ann–Glad you stopped by for a visit. We’re both in great places aren’t we–Walloon Lake is absolutely beautiful for those of you who haven’t seen it. Look forward to seeing you when I get back.
