A New Earth–Can It Start in Darfur?

Tonight is the first session of the much publicized Oprah web-seminar on Eckhart Tolle’s book A NEW EARTH: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose.  A friend of mine suggested that we sign up for the 10 week event.  I did and have started reading the book.

Although I find Eckhart Tolle a little difficult to read, he raises issues that should deeply trouble our collective consciousness like the insanity in our world that allows over one hundred million people to be killed by other people.  According to Tolle:

They died not only through wars between nations, but also through mass exterminations and genocide[.]

Although Tolle refers to genocide that occurred in the last century, this is not just an historical discussion for the safe virtual halls of  Oprah’s web-seminar.  Genocide is today.  It’s real.  It’s happening in places like Darfur .

I hope a new earth can start there.
