7 Signs of Spring
Posted on 20. Mar, 2008 by Karen in Misc
For those of you who live in warmer climates, spring may not be a big thing. But for me, still wondering why I stay in Michigan with its cold climate, spring is an event. And it officially starts today!!
I’m particularly ready for spring this year because winter was steady and unrelenting snow and frigid temps. We even ran out of salt for the roads in my area–startling because there are salt mines under the major city near me. But over the last few weeks I’ve been feeling that spring is on the way. Here’s my list of 7 signs of spring:
- I hear the birds singing in the morning.
- The cardinals have returned to my backyard.
- The squirrels are looking less stressed as the snow melts and they see food.
- I’m getting antsy to garden because I can see plants instead of snow in my front yard.
- I can see my deck floor, which I thought might collapse under the weight of all the snow we got this winter.
- I have this overwhelming feeling to get the car washed.
- I bought a bunch of tulips at Trader Joe’s.
These may seem like small milestones to you but believe me they are inspirational to those of us in the Midwest. Especially since we’re supposed to get a fresh crop of snow over the next 2 days. So for today, I’ll enjoy the sunshine and the illusion of spring that will hopefully become a reality next week.

I just got in from shoveling the first 3 inches and am soaked. Decided to take a break from all the activity of the day and go to the computer. That is when I received the email alert from your website, Karen, and saw the title of this blog. Had to chuckle and try to remember what yesterday was like. Life in Michigan is never dull and boring, that’s for sure! I did, at least, get my car washed today. Here’s to more spring weather — soon!
