1951 Was a Very Good Year

Posted on 06. Jun, 2008 by Karen in Misc

Everyone gets pretty excited about turning the big 5-0.  People celebrate you and congratulate you on this milestone birthday.  Then you fall off a cliff into oblivion until your next big “0″ at 60.  Well not me!

This weekend I turn 57.  Given that I’m still here, feeling pretty good, in my new career as a life coach, it’s a pretty big milestone birthday for me.

So to celebrate, I went looking for my virtual birthday cake and found the incredible one pictured here.  Then I decided to share it with some of the other people lucky to be born in 1951, like me.  Happy Birthday and best wishes to:

  • Kirstie Alley
  • Rush Limbaugh (how’d he get on the list!)
  • Phil Collins
  • Melissa Manchester
  • Jane Seymour
  • Jerry Greenfield (co-founder of Ben and Jerry’s purveyor of my favorite ice cream Heath Bar Crunch)
  • Ben Cohen (the other half of Ben and Jerry’s)
  • Kurt Russell
  • Janis Ian (loved her songs from the 70s)
  • Steven Seagal (loved the “good guy wins” focus of his movies)
  • Peabo Bryson (Peabo, please sing “Happy Birthday” to me!)
  • Olivia Hussey
  • Sally Ride
  • Suze Orman
  • Anjelica Huston
  • Queen Noor of Jordan
  • Michael Keaton
  • Julie Kavner
  • Mark Hamill (may the force be with you too)
  • Sting (now I know ‘51 was a very good year)
  • John Mellencamp
  • Terry McMillan (I think I finally exhaled)
  • Harry Hamlin
  • Treat Williams
  • Meredith Vieira (we “hang out” together on the Today Show)

And of course a milestone birthday like 57 wouldn’t be complete without a great rendition of the “Happy Birthday” song. For a refreshing departure from the norm, I like this one:

Many Happy Returns!

Yvonne–Francis told me you were a frequent Midlife’s A Trip visitor. Thanks so much for the birthday greetings. Glad to hear there’s someone I know joining me in the big 5-7 club!! Are you planning a celebration?

One thing about this birthday is that it’s inspired me to create some 3 year life goals that I’ll celebrate when I turn 60. Of course, I have to write them down so I don’t forget :-)

I’m so glad to have you as a reader here and I’ll look forward to connecting at Platinum!

    Hi Karen,
My sister who will be 54 in November has been raving about this movie called “The Bucket List.” Have you seen it? Do you concur?

Sarah–I just rented “The Bucket List” a few weeks ago because I hadn’t seen in at the movies. I give it 10 thumbs up because it’s a great story about life lists and making time to be, do or have what you really want out of life. Great lesson and yes I confess I shed a few tears. But I can’t tell you more–definitely see this movie!!
